Panther har uppdaterats till 10.3.1. Har uppdateringen löst alla problem eller kvarstår saker att fixa?

Blev bränd med tidigare 10.2.8, vette tusan om man vågar uppdatera sitt fungerande system eller om man ska vänta ett par dagar först.

The 10.3.1 Update delivers enhanced functionality and improved reliability for the following applications, services and technologies: FileVault, Printing, WebDav, and FireWire 800 drives. This update also includes the latest Security Updates.

 

 

Important Note: Apple has identified an issue with external FireWire hard drives using the Oxford 922 bridge chip-set with firmware version 1.02 that can result in the loss of data stored on the disk drive. Even with the improvements available in this update, Apple recommends you update the firmware on your FireWire drive. Please contact your drive manufacturer for more information.

…lyckades inte hålla mig. Har uppdaterat nu… Verkade dock som uppdateringen plockade bort Safari från dockningslisten (kvar var ett frågetecken). Ingen biggie, bara att dra dit den igen.

De verkar inte ha löst problemet med Grafikkorten.

Själv sitter jag med en G4 Sawtooth och har installerat NVidia GeForce2MX 32MB AGP video card....

Graphics card problems; solutions

There appear to be several problems with Power Mac G4 "Sawtooth" systems and graphics cards from NVidia and other manufacturers.

Now Michael Scarce notes new information showing that in some cases the problem only occurs on systems with more than 256 MB RAM, and a workaround from Other World Computing.

"For some reason, graphics are only rendered properly in a G4 “Sawtooth” model with my video card (an Apple-supplied NVidia GeForce2MX 32MB AGP video card) if the machine has only 256 MB or less RAM due to a conflict between video memory and system-managed memory. I had 512 MB, so I pulled half out, and sure enough — things look great, but a system with less RAM.

"The workaround enables higher RAM usage but Quartz Extreme is still disabled. They note several video cards by different manufacturers are problematic in Panther.

3Dfx cards Several readers have reported limited resolution selection in Mac OS X 10.3 with 3Dfx chipset cards.

 

David Besade writes "I have been testing the Voodoo3 with the WWDC Preview of Panther and the GM release 7B85 and it has been confirmed that 3DFX Cards do not function properly on Mac OS X 10.3. The cards are limited to a resolution of 640x480 and it reports the colors at 256 but in reality its 16 or less colors, almost black and white."

 

This problem will likely require a driver update that may never be released.

 

Så någon Panther lär det inte bli i min G4:a.

Tänker inte montera ut mitt kort bara för att kunna installera Panther. Never.

 

Om någon nu säger att det finns ett sätt att fixa detta (och det sägs ju ovan) så kvarstår dock detta problemet:

 

This fix does have one limitation: Quartz Extreme is NOT activated but the card is at least usable while we continue our efforts to restore full functionality. We want the cards to work 100% as much as everyone else does :>) With any luck there will be a follow up article to this one in the near future with Quartz Extreme support, or Apple will fix what has been broken with a 10.3.x update.

Körde in den men har inte märkt någon skillnad, förmodligen bara en ren och skär buggfix.

Tja, jag släppte in katten i min g4 iallafall, har oxå GeForce-kort (flashat), den sk workarounden funkade inte för mig, det blev riktigt fult o läskigt, men allt löper fint sedan jag begränsade minnet till 256MB...

Detta var en bra uppdatering, löste problem med en del problem. Innan kunde jag inte få min dator att sova, nu går det utmärkt.

Jag råkade ut för en hel del myskoproblem igår, efter att ha döpt om en hårddisk (doh!) när min nya 160-gigare kom i förrgår, så jag tog tillfället i akt och gjorde om partitioneringen av min förstadisk. Numera har Applications och Users varsin helt egen partition som mountar i /Applications respektive /Users - vilket funkar bra mycket bättre än det gjorde med symlinks. När jag ändå höll på uppgraderade jag naturligtvis till 10.3.1.
